Map showing Lebanon

Location: Middle East on Mediterranean coast. North of Israel, west of Syria

Capital city: Beirut

Population: 6 million

People: 95 percent Arab, 4 percent Armenian, 1 percent other

Religion: 54 percent Muslim (Sunni, Shia, Druze, Alawite, etc), 40 percent Christian (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, etc), 6 percent other

Point of interest: Lebanon has perhaps one of the most interesting governments. In its efforts to give fair representation to different people groups, Lebanon’s president must be Maronite (Christian), its prime minister Sunni Muslim and its speaker of parliament Shia Muslim.

Christianity: Lebanon is one of a handful of Arab countries that has an indigenous population of Christians, whose presence dates back to early church times. In addition, there are a number of believers from a Muslim background, though this is small.

Mission work: There is a presence of believers who have sought to make Lebanon their home for ministry.

Prayer requests:

  1. Pray for stability in Lebanon. As a nation of three distinct people groups (Sunni Muslims, Shia Muslims and Christians) Lebanon has a history of division. With the civil war in Syria on their doorstep, pray that the Lebanese people would seek unity and peace.
  2. Pray for the Lebanese church to be a light to the nation. Pray that Lebanese Muslims would be drawn to Christ when they see how their Christian countrymen live out their lives.
  3. Pray that our Arabic ministry website would attract Lebanese seekers and that we would be able to encourage them to get in touch and ask their questions.
