The greatest injustice

As a father, I regularly hear my young children say, ‘That’s not fair’. Often my response is, ‘Life’s not fair’. However, my children’s plea for fairness reflects a human desire for justice.

There are many injustices in our world: real issues that adversely impact vulnerable people. These are issues that followers of Christ should care about.

There is, however, one particular injustice that should captivate our thoughts and motivate our actions: millions of people still have no opportunity to hear and understand the good news of Jesus. It’s hard to imagine that in our connected world there are still those who have never heard the truth.

Yemeni looking awaySamir is a young man from Yemen. When he heard the gospel message for the first time, he said:

This is a very beautiful message. Why didn’t someone come to our country and share this with our people a long time ago?
At Arab World Media we use media strategies to identify people who are searching and waiting to hear this message. We are passionate about sharing the beautiful message of God’s love.

Obedient to death

Crown of thornsAs I reflect on the Easter story, I’m reminded of the injustice that was inflicted on Jesus when he was put on trial. Herod mocked Jesus but found no reason to issue a guilty verdict. Pilate pleaded with the Jewish leaders three times saying, ‘I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him… he has done nothing to deserve death’ (Luke 23:14,15 NIV). And yet the crowd persisted, shouting, ‘Crucify him! Crucify him’ (v. 20).

It is natural to consider Christ’s crucifixion as the greatest act of injustice our world has ever known. However, Jesus willingly went to the cross. In Philippians 2:6 (NIV) it says that Jesus, ‘being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage…’ Rather, ‘he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!’ (v. 8).

Through his death and resurrection, Jesus has been exalted to the highest place. We have the joy of knowing Jesus as our Saviour and Lord. This is a beautiful message worth sharing!
